Job description

The European Payments Council (EPC) is looking for a temporary paralegal for an assignment from September to December 2024. As paralegal you will give support to the application process of financial institutions wishing to adhere to the EPC (payment) schemes. You will be expected to support other administrative and governance-related activities carried out by the (Senior) Legal Advisers of the EPC. As part of a small team, you will need to show flexibility and willingness to become involved in the support of some business-groups, depending on the workload. A business- and solution-mindedness is a must.

The person we are looking for: 

As a paralegal, you will primarily assist the EPC (senior) legal counsels by:

  • assisting in the process of onboarding financial institutions into the EPC schemes e.g., by reviewing the institutions’ application documents, communicating with applicants to resolve issues related to their application, maintaining the EPC register of scheme participants;
  • conducting research on specific legal and/or regulatory issues related to the company’s activities and prepare detailed reports on research findings;
  • organising and maintaining the association’s legal files;
  • drafting and editing non-complex legal documents, such as resolutions of the EPC General Assembly, Board decision papers and minutes of various meetings (of e.g., the EPC General Assembly, Board or Legal Support Group);
  • providing administrative support to the legal department, including calendar management, meeting organisation, and correspondence handling, and coordinate with other colleagues to ensure smooth communication and resolution of legal issues.
  • Part of your responsibilities will include keeping the Ultimate Beneficial Owner (UBO) register up to date. 

Profile:

  • Bachelor’s degree in law (minimum 3rd year completed).
  • Excellent legal research and drafting skills.
  • Proficiency in office software (Microsoft Office 365, electronic document management). Microsoft Excel proficiency is a plus.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication in English.
  • Strong attention to detail and organisational skills.
  • Experience:
    • Previous experience in a corporate legal department or law firm is a plus.
    • Experience in addressing legal and regulatory compliance.

The working language of the EPC is English, therefore fluency in English (both spoken and written) is a key prerequisite for the position.

A work permit in Belgium is a mandatory prerequisite for the position.

The job requires physical presence at the EPC offices in Brussels, therefore the position is not suitable for a remote job.
