This job in a nutshell

To support the expansion of our Customs team, we’re looking for a Senior Manager. Someone who not only has technical expertise but is also eager to be at the forefront and drive the team’s growth. Someone with excellent business development skills and a knack for the commercial side of things, capable of inspiring potential clients to embrace the exciting opportunities that BDO Customs can offer.

What will you be doing?

As Senior Manager you will:

  • Provide the necessary customs expertise to assist our customers in their AEO project and, when these companies become authorised economic operators, take responsibility for helping these customers maintain their certification
  • Design and implement processes and procedures for customers to facilitate the import and export of goods and ensure compliance with all formalities
  • Keep abreast of new and emerging (European and Belgian) customs legislation, court rulings and guidelines and take a proactive approach towards our clients to implement changes in their businesses to ensure that work is carried out efficiently and in compliance with the aforementioned rules
  • Make stakeholders aware of their involvement, and sensitize the BDO organisation on customs requirements and provide internal training when necessary
  • Collaborate with global BDO colleagues specialised in customs obligations
  • Cooperate with Belgian customs authorities and other regulatory authorities, in particular overseeing physical and administrative controls by customs authorities
  • Contribute to relevant consultation moments and be part of industry focus groups (Retail, Pharma...) for customs aspects
  • Provide training on customs matters
  • Develop and implement business development strategies to attract new clients and expand our customer base in the area of customs expertise
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities, building and maintaining strong relationships with potential and existing clients
  • Actively participate in networking events, conferences, and other business development activities to enhance the visibility and reputation of our customs services

What do you bring to the table?

  • Strong technical skills, mainly in customs, but preferably also in excise
  • At least 10 years of experience in customs
  • Expertise in customs and trade related technology implementations is an asset
  • A healthy dose of assertiveness
  • Very strong communication skills, you are strong orally and in writing in NL & EN, knowledge of French is a main asset
  • You're feeling comfortable to participate in networking events within the sector
  • Proven business development skills with the ability to identify and pursue new business opportunities
  • Capable of building and maintaining strong relationships with clients and industry stakeholders
