About the Role

Would you like to join one of the largest reinsurance groups in the world?  Are you passionate and knowledgeable about the legal aspects of Sustainability and Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) topics?  Then we might have a rare and exciting opportunity for you!  In this role you will:

  • Provide legal advice and support on ESG/sustainability topics to local legal entities/ business teams, particularly focused on non-financial disclosure
  • Work closely with colleagues in Legal & Compliance, Sustainability teams in Risk Management, in particular the Sustainability Reporting Program, as well as business colleagues supporting both the asset, liability and operations side of Swiss Re's business
  • Support the development and implementation of frameworks and processes to support local legal entities/business teams to comply with non-financial ESG/sustainability disclosure requirements
  • Support with the development/set-up of Group wide processes and frameworks seeking to support Business Units/local offices to create their own approaches to ESG/sustainability reporting; 
  • Contribute to the development of and deliver trainings as well as awareness raising sessions addressing ESG/sustainability reporting topics; 
  • Assist in establishing positions and best practices, policies, standards or procedures on key ESG legal risks, in particular related to ESG/sustainability reporting;
  • Provide training and reporting on key ESG/sustainability legal risks impacting the Swiss Re Group, develop risk mitigants and manage residual risks



About the Team 

This is an exciting and rare opportunity to join ESG Advisory team within Capital Markets & Finance Legal (CMF) that is a part of the broader Corporate Centre & Group Functions Legal team. CMF is one of several teams in division Legal at Swiss Re and ESG Advisory serves as a centre of competence responsible for coordinating within Group Legal the response to ESG and Sustainability matters. ESG Advisory and CMF enable Legal in fulfilling its role in implementing the Group’s vision to make the world more resilient consistent with the Group Sustainability Strategy across different Business Units, Divisions, Group Functions.

You are able to identify relevant issues, taking initiative and ownership in achieving resolution, using a collaborative approach, and understanding of technical and compliance matters that require escalation or greater oversight. You are also a trusted business partner, who manages relationships effectively and communicates legal concepts clearly and succinctly.


Qualification and Experience: 

  • You have a law degree and qualifications, with a minimum of three years' experience of legal practice in the area of ESG and sustainability with a law firm or international financial institution/(re)insurance company
  • You have experience and understanding of evolving ESG/sustainability regulation including familiarity with EU (Taxonomy, CSRD, CS3D), Swiss (RBI, FINMA), and international legal frameworks (ISSB, TNFD), in addition to corporate law and regulation in cross-border scenarios Ability to understand and operate successfully in a complex, dynamic, heavily matrixed corporate environment
  • You have expertise in managing legal aspects that affect complex, multi-jurisdictional transactions as well as that impact on both the asset and liability side of the balance sheet and operations 
  • You understand of the role of the Legal and Compliance Team as control function and participation in risk management
  • Corporate governance experience is also a plus
