Although the validity of the Belgian blackout period rules was questioned, the European Court of Justice has for the time being confirmed it (see also our newsletter of November 2011).
THe Belgian trade practices law of 6 April 2010 provides for a ban on announceing price reductions as from 6 June 2012 until the start of the official sales period.
The sales period normally starts on 1 July. Since 1 July falls on a Sunday this year, article 27 of the law of 6 April 2010 allows for the sales on Saturday 30 June 2012.
Easy ways to avoid blackout period restrictions include joint offers (buy one, get one free) which are now no longer restricted.
