On 10 May 2012, the Council of the European Union adopted the proposed regulation concerning the placing on the market and use of biocidal products ("BPR").
The Commission submitted its initial proposal back in June 2009 with the aim of replacing the current directive 98/8 concerning the placing of biocidal products on the market ("BPD"). The proposal makes fundamental changes to the legislative regime, as explained in a previous Bulletin. It is now scheduled to fully apply from 1 September 2013. However, in some cases, it is foreseen to apply as early as 1 September 2012.
