What your future may hold

As Senior Legal Counsel at Bridgestone you will: 

  • Serve as strategic business partner to headquarters-based Sales and Manufacturing functions by providing timely, practical, and risk-balanced legal advice and support;
  • Structure, draft, review and negotiate contracts (sale, manufacturing, joint development, off-take, strategic alliance agreements);
  • Advise on Belgian labour and employment matters and coordinate labour outside counsels in other Countries where their manufacturing facilities are located;
  • Manage and resolve commercial legal disputes together with outside counsels;
  • Have the opportunity to create new and improve existing processes related to supporting these functions and clients;
  • Act as the ‘go to’ legal resource for questions regarding Belgian law for other members of the legal department; 
  • Maintain awareness of and communicate within the law department and to clients any changes or developments in relevant applicable (Belgian) laws and regulations;
  • Drive a culture of compliance and ethics by monitoring activities, assessing risk, providing training, and continuously improving policies and procedures within the company and the BSEMIA law department;
  • Manage outside counsel performance and costs by setting budgets, implementing cost-saving strategies, and monitoring overall legal spend at HQ level to meet annual targets.

Your skillset

  • You obtained a Belgian Master’s in Law and can count on minimum of 8 years of relevant experience, with a preference for a mix of law firm and inhouse roles;
  • Solid understanding of Belgian commercial contract law, corporate law and labour law;
  • Excellent knowledge of English and Dutch (written and spoken). A good knowledge of French is an asset;
  •  Strong communication skills, commercial awareness, and ethical judgment;
  • An energetic, pragmatic, and agile mindset, who takes ownership and has high commitment;
  • A dynamic, problem solving and pro-active personality with a no-nonsense and straightforward approach.
