Company description

Virya Energy is active in the development, financing, and operation of projects in the field of energy transition. The company, based in Belgium, was founded at the end of 2019 by Colruyt Group and its majority shareholder, Korys. 

Virya Energy is active across the entire value chain of sustainable energy. This includes the production of green energy in Europe through its subsidiaries Eoly Energy and Eurowatt, in Asia through its subsidiary Sanchore and a majority stake in Constant Energy, and energy distribution through its subsidiary DATS 24. Virya Energy is also involved in the development of sustainable hydrogen projects through Virya H2. The company holds interests in service providers to the offshore industry, including GeoXYZ, DotOcean, and Marlinks.  

Since October 2023, Virya Energy has also acquired a majority stake in the Belgian company Diodi, which specializes in sustainable agricultural land management.

Description of the vacancy

  • You will be working within the group legal team that supports Virya and its subsidiaries in Belgium and abroad, with a strong focus on your business partners in the Business Unit Wind & Solar Europe and DATS 24.
  • As part of this team, you will be contributing to the day-to-day follow-up of legal matters at DATS 24. You will be translating energy (supply) regulation into clear and concrete advice for the business and you will advise on, draft and negotiate all kinds of commercial and energy related contracts.
  • For the Business Unit Wind & Solar you will be analysing the legal feasibility and legal compliance of renewable energy production and commercialisation projects in Belgium, including the EV-charging business;
  • You will provide legal support to operational teams in the development, financing and operation of renewable energy projects, with a particular focus on securing land tenure, drafting collaboration contracts with other developers, supporting with renewables tenders and obtaining various administrative authorizations and building permits.
  • You will also assist with resolving appeals against administrative authorizations or any other disputes that may arise in the context of the development of renewable energy projects in Belgium and abroad.
  • In general, you will provide legal advice to operational teams on urban planning (permitting), real estate, contract and commercial law. 

Profile

  • You have a master’s degree in law.
  • You have at least 4 years of relevant professional experience as a commercial and/or energy lawyer with a reputable law firm and/or a legal department (of an energy company).
  • You are solution-oriented, pro-active and pay attention to details.
  • You have the ability to manage multiple tasks at the same time without losing oversight.
  • You have good diplomatic and social skills and enjoy building relationships with stakeholders.
  • You are a team player and possess a high level of integrity.
  • You have an analytical mindset.
  • You have good social skills and can work efficiently in a team.
  • You are flexible and willing to work both at the corporate office and, when required, the DATS 24 office in Halle.
  • You are fluent in Dutch or French, and you are capable of working and drafting in English.
