On 17 July 2020, the government of the Brussels-Capital Region decided to grant support measures for hotels and aparthotels severely impacted by the sanitary crisis.
On 9 October 2020, the European Commission gave the green light for a Brussels aid scheme to support the sector (please see our previous article).
The conditions and formalities that apply to this aid were published on 26 October 2020 by the Brussels government.
The aid is up to a maximum EUR 200,000 per hotel/aparthotel and EUR 800,000 per beneficiary. Essentially, eligible hotels and aparthotels:
- must be in proper administrative order (with an active and non-suspended registration number, valid certificates for town planning and fire safety on 7 July 2020, and having complied with the obligation to publish annual accounts); and
- must have been financially "sound" before the beginning of the health crisis (2019 turnover higher than 2018 turnover; positive EBT; no social or tax debts; not in difficulty within the meaning of Regulation (EU) No 651/2014 at 31 December 2019; and not having started mass redundancy proceedings between 23 March 2020 and 31 December 2020).
The application form must be submitted no later than 13 November 2020.
