The Senior European Intellectual Property Attorney will provide competent, practical and timely legal advice relevant to intellectual property. This position will counsel business leaders and technical associates on all IP related matters in EMEA to minimize legal and financial liabilities, protect corporate interests and preserve corporate assets. The position will be located at Goodyear Headquarters in Luxembourg.

 

Job duties / responsibilities may include, but are not limited to

  • Manage a team of in-house IP professionals and oversee patent application preparation and prosecution in EMEA.
  • Conduct/prepare freedom-to-practice studies, analysis, and opinions regarding third-party IP rights in EMEA.
  • Oversee the efficient use of outside counsel while achieving stated budget requirements.
  • Provide legal support on IP-related transactions.
  • Drafting and/or negotiate IP agreements in EMEA. 
  • Representation of Goodyear before the EUIPO on trademark and design matters.
  • Provide legal guidance regarding IP risks and strategies.
  • Manage IP disputes and litigation as they arise.
  • Conduct and communicate competitive analysis of IP landscapes.
  • Providing IP-related training for EMEA.

 

Key experience

  • 10 or more years of experience in patent law, practicing before the European Patent Office (EPO) and nationally qualified as a patent attorney in any one of Great Britain, France, Germany or Netherlands
  • Experience in drafting and prosecution of patent applications - Handling EPO oppositions and appeals.
  • Experience providing legal opinion on freedom to operate, non-infringement and invalidity matters in Europe
  • Excellent communications skills (written/verbal) in at least English (German and/or French - strongly desired)
  • 5 or more years of experience drafting and negotiation agreements.
  • University degree in technical sciences (Chemistry, Engineering, Mechanical, Physics, etc.).
  • Qualified as European Patent Attorney.
  • National qualification: Germany, France, UK or Netherlands.
