The Opportunity:

  • Serve as lawyer to a group of European entities that are subsidiaries of a US publicly traded manufacturer of construction products. 
  • Position based in Houthalen-Helchteren (3 days per week office presence).  
  • Some local European travel to meet with business contacts will be needed.
  • This role requires a high level of collaboration and coordination with and working at the direction of US-based lawyers (who do have overall responsibility for legal matters associated with the European businesses).
  • The successful candidate will have strong contracts experience and be able to continually prioritize daily activity in a fast-paced environment with a “done is better than perfect” mindset.

What you will do:

  • First legal point of contact for the responsible businesses.
  • Coordinate legal issues across responsible jurisdictions, ensuring alignment with the company’s overall strategy and objectives at the direction of senior lawyers.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with US lawyers regarding legal matters impacting applicable businesses.
  • Provide legal advice and support on a wide range of issues, including commercial contracts, employment law, intellectual property, internal restructurings and data protection.
  • Act as local liaison regarding litigation and disputes at the direction of Senior Director of litigation.
  • Monitor changes in laws and regulations that may affect the company’s operations and advise management teams accordingly.
  • Identify and help manage risks.

Profile

  • Masters degree in Law from a European university.
  • Admission to practice law in at least one European jurisdiction.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience.
  • Experience working for a corporation strongly preferred.
  • Excellent written and spoken English and Dutch required. Proficiency in either French or German needed.
  • Excellent knowledge of corporate law required.
  • Extensive contract drafting and review experience related to commercial agreements.
  • The ability to effectively collaborate with large project teams and one-on-one with business leaders.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills. This includes proactively communicating with colleagues about complicated concepts in understandable ways tailored to varying levels in the organization. 
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships and influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to support the company’s operations across Europe. (Approximately 10-20% of the time).
  • Ability to manage many tasks at once from multiple project owners with varying degrees of urgency and importance. 
  • Has demonstrated competency to complete proactive tasks and projects whilst balancing day-to-day tasks.
