FM Global is seeking an attorney to work as an in-house counsel within the Litigation Division. The position will be located in either the Luxembourg, London or Maidenhead office and report to the Litigation Manager located at FM Global’s headquarters in Johnston, Rhode Island, USA.    

  • Provide legal advice and assistance to internal clients such as Claims, Underwriting, Human Resources, Executive Management, and Engineering on issues related to their respective disciplines.
  • Manage litigation, arbitration, and the work of outside counsel on matters throughout our global operations. This includes active, hands-on management of cases, including resolving matters in mediation, preparing witnesses for depositions, attending trials—as the nature and size of the matter warrants.
  • Advise HR on employment-related issues (e.g. benefits, performance and conduct matters). Conduct internal investigations.
  • Provide training on legal issues to internal clients.
  • Advise on miscellaneous legal matters that arise in connection with a global business.  


  • Candidates should have a minimum of 8 years of complex commercial litigation experience working at a law firm or in the public sector, preferably including trial or arbitration experience, and litigating in common law or civil law jurisdictions located within an EMEA country.
  • Additional experience as an in-house counsel for a large corporation or organization managing litigation and arbitration matters, as well as advising internal clients on day-to-day legal issues, is preferred.
  • Specialized knowledge of and experience with insurance coverage, employment law and discrimination matters, professional liability issues, and subrogation is highly preferred.
  • Experience with arbitration and other forms of alternative dispute resolution (e.g. mediation) is highly preferred.
  • Strong writing, analytical, negotiation and presentation skills.
  • Ability to communicate practical and actionable advice to internal business clients by simplifying complicated legal issues.
  • Exceptional integrity.
  • Skilled at resolving complex issues and thinking creatively.
  • A proactive self-starter who works well with minimal supervision, yet exercises excellent judgment about when to look for guidance from managers and colleagues.
  • Effective working in cross-functional teams, open-minded, inclusive, and flexible.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Travel required approximately 25% of time.
  • Law degree (LL.B, LL.M, JD or equivalent) and licensed as an attorney within the European Union or the United Kingdom.
