The English-taught LLM in International and European Law at the Brussels School of Governance (BSoG), part of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB), combines excellence and flexibility. This 60 ECTS English-taught Advanced Master’s programme offers evening classes and the choice to complete the degree over one or two years. Established in 1971, it also benefits from a strong academic reputation and a global alumni network of over 1300 graduates from more than 110 countries.
Designed for busy professionals
Classes are organised in the evenings (6–9 PM) and taught in modules, making the programme particularly well-suited for working professionals and those seeking a more flexible study schedule. Students are required to attend classes in person in Brussels—offering a highly interactive learning experience in the heart of Europe.
Curriculum focused on real-world challenges
The curriculum blends core areas of European and international law with a strong emphasis on emerging global challenges. Courses include EU external relations law, sustainability law, digital law (data protection, AI and beyond), migration and human rights law, and the law of the transforming EU economy. This approach ensures students gain both a solid legal foundation and insight into the legal dimensions of today’s most pressing global issues.
Taught in a leading research environment
The LLM is embedded within the VUB Brussels School of Governance, a leading institute in policy and fundamental research of the highest quality in an international context. Students benefit from the insights of professors involved in EU-funded research projects in areas such as sustainability, climate policy, migration, diversity, and digitalisation. This connection between teaching and cutting-edge research creates a rich and forward-looking academic environment.
Strategic location, international outlook
Located in Brussels, the programme draws on the knowledge and networks of professors working at EU institutions, international organisations, and law firms. This strategic setting not only enhances the classroom experience but also offers opportunities for professional networking and career development. With its global alumni community and international student body, the programme fosters cross-border connections that last well beyond graduation.
Admissions
Applicants must hold a Master’s in Law or a related field (preferably with a legal component), or a final law degree granting access to the legal profession in their home country. The programme is fully taught in English.
