For our client, a leading independent Belgian law firm, we are looking for an associate with experience in IP/IT/Data law to join its IP/IT/Data department. Dutch native with an excellent command of English and a passive knowledge of French.
Intellectual property, information technology and data protection have become main driving forces behind the business of an increasing number of companies. Our client's dedicated team of lawyers handles IP, IT and data protection cases at both national and international level, whether it is advisory, litigation or transactional work (in support of other practices within the firm). Their approach is to fully understand the industry sectors in which their clients operate. They ensure that they understand each client’s commercial objectives and concerns, they anticipate the issues and they tailor their services to achieve the best possible strategy from an IP, IT and data protection perspectives. They believe in a practical, business-oriented approach to legal issues. If needed, They propose alternative dispute resolution, try to reach out-of-court settlements, or negotiate joint ventures instead of indefinitely pursuing litigation.
As an associate in the IP/IT/Data team you will be involved in a broad range of matters for a varied client base, with a particular focus on IP & Data law. Your tasks will include:
- Drafting, reviewing and negotiating IP agreements (copyrights, patents, counterfeitings, trademarks, ...)
- Implementing and reviewing Data documentation (GDPR, privacy policies, data transfers, retention periods, ...) for customers including public authorities
- Handling IT files (IT contracts, IT audits, ...)
- Engaging with clients and their counterparts
- Managing matters from inception to closing
- You hold a Master's degree in law, a LL.M. in IP/IT/Data law is a plus
- You have 2 to 6 year's experience in IP, IT and Data related files
- You are passionate about the legal aspects regarding innovation and creation
- You have an entrepreneurial mind-set, wants to go the extra mile and is solution-focused
- You are dynamic, driven and a motivated team-player
- You are client-oriented & proactive
- You have an outstanding level of Dutch and English with a passive comprehension of French
